Jonathan Moyer is the Interim Associate Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for International Futures at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver. His research focus is on measuring and modeling international relations theory. His dissertation explored trends and pressures related to international conflict (global power transition, climate change, demographic shifts, state failure and peak oil) by formalizing assumptions and building scenarios within the International Futures (IFs) model. His work on the forthcoming (2012) Patterns of Potential Human Progress (PPHP) volume—focusing on governance—drives his academic work exploring the future of domestic conflict and stability. Jonathan also retains an interest in event data models of instability, and co-created the news aggregating site BuzzChurn.
Jonathan has been working with IFs since he started his MA program in Denver in the fall of 2005. In this capacity, he has consulted for the US National Intelligence Council, the European Commission, the United States Institute of Peace and the government of Slovenia. He most recently led a project for the European Commission charged with creating global forecasts of ICT-related variables and their connection to energy systems and carbon emissions. This work informs his contribution to the forthcoming (2011) PPHP volume exploring global infrastructure. He wrote the second version of the IFs Help System and maintains the IFs website and Forum. Jonathan is the Lead Trainer for IFs and has led trainings for a wide range of groups in Europe, North America and Africa.
Jonathan completed his comprehensive exams in early 2009, passing International Political Theory with distinction. He speaks Vietnamese and Spanish.
