After graduating from The College of New Jersey in 2007 with a degree in history, Michael moved to South America to work as a program associate in the Chilean Ministry of Education's "English Opens Doors" language program. While there he contributed to the recruitment, training, and support of foreign English teachers to work in the Chilean public school system. After two years, he moved to the North Coast of the Dominican Republic where he worked as an instructor and program administrator for an educational nonprofit called The DREAM Project, helping to develop the organization's young adult vocational training course.

In the fall of 2011, Michael enrolled at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies as an M.A. candidate in International Development. His concentration is in sustainable urban development with a regional focus on Latin America. His other interests include geographic information systems and environmental sustainability.
